Many fun activities await you at the 2009-2010 Race Into the New Year.
The night starts off with Race Registration starting at 10:30 P.M. At 11:00 P.M. Live music under the tent will start at 11:00 P.M. Mike Casey and the band will be cranking up some great tunes to pump everyone up for the race.
At 11:00 P.M. the one mile Fun Run will start. Kids as well as adults will toe the line and start the New Year off in a heatlhy manner. Several people use the Fun Run as the start of their kicking the smoking habit and the beginning of their diet programs.
At 11:30 P.M. the one mile Fun Runners are finished and the large tents starts getting crowded with the 5K participants who are signing up and getting ready for their 3.1 mile adventure. Food and drinks are put out on the tables and the volunteers begin getting the bubbily ready.
As the clock strikes 11:45 P.M. the gun goes off to signal the start of the timed 5K Race. Only a few elite runners have a shot at finshing this race in the same year as they started. Hundreds of both runners and walkers crowd the trail in their New Years costumes. Noise makers breakup the cool crisp winter stillness. Entrants are treated to champagne on the course as well as sparkiling cider for the little ones.
At the stroke of midnight, the first of many large fireworks are spotted up in the air above the runners. For about 5 minutes the Tulsa sky is lit up by the grand fireworks display. Runners and walkers will cross the finish line from midnight up till about 1 A.M.
After the race the crowd will dance, sip champagne, beer, eat blackeyed peas, cornbread, and several other New Years treats. At about 12:45 A.M the awards ceromony will start and prize giveaways will be handed out.
Then it is time to get some sleep as the Polar Bear Plunge is the next day !!!
