Frequently Asked Questions

I thought the start time was 2pm.
It was but we changed it to 1:11pm since the race is on 1/1/11

What is up with the three person teams?
If you sign up as a three person team, you all start at the same time and have the option of running together or separate. Each individual on the team will be handicapped and time taken off of the actual finishing time based on sex and age. The team with the lowest handicapped time will be the winner.

Do I have to wear shoes?
Yes shoes are required as you just never know what type of course we will run on. You may be running in mud, dirt, water or other surfaces where shoes will protect your feet.

What if I don't want to get wet but still want to participate?
Then come on out and be a volunteer. Contact Race Organizers Scott or Brian and tell you how you can help.

Do I need to be able to swim to participate?
No. If you do not know how to swim you MUST bring your own life perserver and a volunteer will help you to the shallow end of the pool.

Should we bring a change of clothes?
Yes. We reccomend bringing a towel, dry shirts, pants, socks and shoes. Changing areas will be provided to change clothes in.

What things do we need to bring?
Tell your friends and family members to not forget their comeras and video recorders. While there will be professional photographers filming you, you may want some pics of you that the pros don't get. Also don't forget to bring your sense of adventure.

Are costumes mandatory?
No. But we do encourage participants to dress up. Several of the men wear their wives bikinis, skirts etc. Many of the women wear bikinis, and we also will have body painting and or marking. We will have Magic Markers on hand if you wish to draw of write something funny on your body. No profanity.

Where do I park on race day?
There is plenty of free parking in the parking lots surrounding the River Parks West Festival Area.

Packet Pickup is at RunnersWorld Tulsa at 43rd & Peoria from 10 A.M. - 6 P.M. beginning four days before the plunge.

No. All packets must be picked up at RunnersWorld Tulsa or at the race.

Can I pick up my packet on race day?
Yes packets can be picked up at the Plunge from till 15 minutes before race time.

Can a friend pickup my packet for me?
Yes this is done on an honor system.

Can a friend or a family member run with me if they did not enter the race?
No. This is called banditing a race and could get you disqualified. Bandits cause many problems with the timing and puts undo pressure on the aid station volunteers.

What if I cannot make it to the race? Can I get a refund?
We are sorry but we do not give refunds. Participants unable to participate may pick up their runner packet. Or they may have someone else pick up their packet for them.

What is the age limit for the races?
There is no age limit to either the Polar Bear Plunge. However, it is recommended that young children be supervised at all times as it will be chaotic and very crowded.

What happens if I leave my race number at home?
All participants in both races must have a race number. If you forget or lose your race number, you must go to the race registration tables to get new number issued.
