Holy Cow !!!! The 2008 version of the Turkey & Taturs Trail Race went off without a hitch !!! The weather was perfect, the aid stations were phenomonal, and the finish line ran like a well oiled TATUR machine. The success of this race was due to your hard work, dedication and willingness to contribute to Tulsa's amazing trail running
community. The town of Tulsa as a whole, really came together to organize this year's race.
The first year of the race in 2006 we had 115 entrants sign up. In 2007 we had 215 entrants take the challenge. This year we had a record 303 people enter. Most races that get bigger each year, lose some of that hometown closeness that is such a great trait to have. Thanks to you guys, we have not only gotten bigger each year, we have become more friendly, enthusiastic and pamper each runner like he or she is the only one on the course.
I have received dozens of emails praising your efforts and volunteering succcesses, while I cannot list them all, I will include a sampling of them below. As I write this email I have not read a single negative remark. While I was running around making sure that everything was "running smoothly", (no pun intended) I could not help but notice how you all had changed and improved the way the race was organized. It seems that you all learned quickly what was working and what was not, and adapted quickly. I saw each one of you offering encouragement and support to all the runners.
What equally amazed me is how loud you all were at the aid stations and finish line as the tired runners came through. You would think that each runner had won the Olympic Marathon with the amount of noise and excitement that you all generated. I was extremey proud and appreciative of all your efforts.
Several of you pledged to help for 2-3 hours and ended up spending ALL DAY at volunteering. In the past years I was simply overwhelmed with small problems that arose throughout the day. This year was smooth as silk and it was due to all your hard work. From 3:30am when the U Haul pulled up to the YMCA till 5pm when we finally lefy the race, you all chipped in and did the work that it takes to put on a successful race.
Thank you all !!! Special kudos to Athletic Sound, Digital Wow Photography, Pearl Izumi, OSU Medical School, Joe McDaniel with Glen's Road Racing Service, and all the other entities that helped with the Third Annual Turkey & Taturs Trail Race.
