Robin Hudson is a very talented runner. She has raced in events from 5K's all the way up to a marathon. Some of her recent results are as follows: Aduddell 5 Mile Run 53:05, Memorial 5K Trail Run (her first trail run!) 33:08, Run Short/ Run Long 25K 2:21:50.
Did I mention that she has finished marathons? In October, Robin traveled down to our country's capitol and ran in the Marine Corps Marathon. Robin turned in a great time of 5:19:36. Then she turned around and obtained herself a new PR at the OKC Marathon in a time of 5:02:03. On June 4th, her and about six other RunnersWorld Runners went westward till they found a big ole ocean. Robin finished the San Diego Rock & Roll Marathon in 5:19:57. In October Robin went north and did the Waddell and Reed Marathon in Kansas City. Robin we are delighted to have ya as a TATUR. Check out her 5K PR!! This girl is getting fast.
Be sure to congratulate Robin on graduating with another college degree!!

Cindy is an international superstar! She has been featured in the Tulsa World more than ex-mayor Lafortune. Ask her about it. Cindy has been running for many years and has done too many races to count. Her nickname is "Sarge" and if you ever ask her about why they call her "Sarge" just be ready to drop and give her 20 push-ups.
Cindy has done three marathons and went to Dublin Ireland last year, where she turned in a smoking time of 5:11:20. Cindy was shooting for a sub 5hr "thon" but the miserable weather conditions just did not allow it. Cindy travels quite a bit and took a trip to Mexico last year. We are sooooo happy to have you as a TATUR!!!!!

Kathy is definitely our elite female athlete. She routinely wins or places in most of the events that she enters. Kathy has been running for over 30 years and has worked at RunnersWorld for 25 years. If you have a question about running, and Kathy doesn't know the answer, there probably isn't one. Kathy has started, organized, and motivated two very popular running groups, called "Newbies" and "Marathon Training Program".
Kathy has completed endurance events all around the world. She has ran in marathons in Hawaii, Paris France, Dublin Ireland, Rome Italy, Amsterdam, and even in Antarctica. Kathy has completed several triathlons, mountain bike races, and can swim like a fish. She is also a regular on the trail running circuit and does numerous local road races. She even has her own race called Run Into the New Year, which she started and organized from scratch. It attracted over 300 runners in 2005-2006, its inaugural year.
By the way I heard she married a pretty cool guy!

Marvin has been lifting some serious iron since you have last seen him. What can be said about Marvin that has not already been mentioned at the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony in Stockholm, New Jersey and at the Elite Runners Hall of Fame in Boston, Montana. "Marvelous " Marvin is a running guru who helps motivate and inspire the Newbies Group every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Marvin has done triathlons and has even broken the 3:00 mark on the marathon. Marvin recently completed the Pocatello Marathon in Idaho as well as the Waddell and Reed Marathon in Kansas City ( 5:25:59). Marvin you are a Marathon Maniac.
Marvin is a great asset to this group and for those of you who don't know him, you are in for a real treat.
Here is a pic of Marvin's evil and bit older twin brother Mervin.

Ken is one of our more accomplished runners. Ken has been running for a number of years and has even done a 100 miler. He has finished the Lean Horse 100 Mile in 2005 in 29:41:29. Ken has done many ultras in Arkansas, Texas, and Kansas. Ken and his wife Dana know most of the trails around Oklahoma and often spend the day running and picnicking. His alter ego is Trail Zombie on the Runners World Forums.
Some recent races that Ken has done are: Turkey Mountain 5 mile, Flat Rock 50K, Oklahoma Marathon, Run for Your Life 5K, Athens Big Fork Trail Marathon, Dan Man (30 miles), Toe Stumpin Trail Run, the Atoka 50K, Lake McMurtry 50K, and even a road marathon in OKC. Here is Ken's schedule for the fall.

I don't know if Dana is Ken's wife or Ken is Dana's husband but either way she has just taken up trail running and is loving it. Dana's first official race was at the Dan Man 50 Mile Run. Dana power walked 18 miles (3 laps). After that she was hooked!! After buying some trail shoes her and Ken headed up to Mannford to race in the Toe Stumpin Trail Run. Here is Ken' report about Dana's race:
She was running well, walking the ups and cranking out 12ish minute miles on the flats and downhill's. She had met up with a new runner, running his FIRST race ever and they were really enjoying their run. Both finished elated with their effort. I was proud of Dana. About 1/4 mile from the end of the race, Dana stubbed her toe on a stump (hence the catchy name of the race!!) and fell doing the most awesome face plant. She landed, fortunately, on a real dusty, rockless patch of the trail. She got pretty dirty, but was not hurt at all. I congratulated her for her first fall, and reminded her that it really is not a trail race unless you fall. I was proud of her.
Then Dana RAN the Atoka 25K, and the Lake McMurtry 25K and Turkey & Taturs 25K. Wow!! Talk about catching the "Trail Bug" Congrats Dana!!

Mandy (Amanda) is a superb athlete. She has finished the OKC Marathon, the Rockledge Rumble 15K and just did her first ultra in Atoka. She signed up for the 25K, but felt so good after the first lap that she did another. She earned herself second place female overall. Mandy finished the 50K in a blazing time of 6:40:24. She also is an avid mountain biker and hopes to try her first adventure race before the year is up.
Mandy also races quite a few road races here in Tulsa. She often places in the top three in her age group and has lowered her 5K PR down into the low 24 minute range. She is a manager for Akins Foods and travels extensively. Mandy finished her first Adventure Race, the Dusk to Dawn race in July of 2007. Gotta love poison ivy huh Mandy.

Teresa is fairly new to trail running but has been running on the road for many years. Teresa works for Tulsa University and enjoys riding motorcycles with her husband. She races in many events across the state and has completed several marathons. She and her husband Don enjoy tooling around on their motorcycles also.
Teresa is an amazing runner and athlete and will really enjoy breaking up the monotony of the roads with some good ole fashioned trail running. We are all excited to have you as a TATUR, and how about sending us some more PR's

Randy Ellis is another of our celebrity runners. Randy is a celebrity not for his fascinating book, Running With Payne, but for his passion, longevity and sheer speed where it comes to running the trails and ultras. Randy has run across the United States following the famous Bunion Derby course. Randy is one of Oklahoma's original trail runners and has done more trail races than Google can display on 10 pages!!
Randy gave a fabulously interesting and inspiring talk about some of his running exploits at our second TATUR meeting. Randy is a great asset to TATUR and we all look forward to running with this incredible runner and individual. Randy, feel free to send us some PR's and some bio info!! Be sure to pick a copy of his book online or at RunnersWorld Tulsa.

Mark Plate runs hundreds of 5K's and 10 K's. If you have a question about a race in the Tulsa area, ask Mark, he has probably ran the race before. He seems to get faster in every race that he enters. Mark also is a lead forecaster for the National Weather Service in Tulsa.
Mark coaches an amazing daughter named Stephanie Plate. Stephanie is only 11years old and almost always wins her age division. Mark often runs on Riverside Drive and is easy to recognize as he encourages and motivates his 11 year old daughter Stephanie

Upbeat, motivating, and always cracking jokes describes Diana Snyder to a tee. Diana just completed her first half marathon in OKC on April 30th, 2006. She loves dogs and has a beautiful dog named Baloo (from the "Jungle Book") who gets his feelings hurt if he does not get to run with her. Diana teaches preschool for Union Public Schools and loves the trails out at Turkey Mountain. A long time member of the RunnersWorld runners Diana goes out of her way to meet the Newbies and make them feel less nervous about running.
Diana recently had to go to the hospital after biting a squirrel. Actually that is not totally true. Ask Diana about it. It is a funny story.

Earl is by far the most experienced and accomplished trail and ultra runner of the group. Earl has been running trails for over 10 years. I believe he has completed seven 100 milers including one of the most difficult 100 milers, Leadville. Here is his Leadville race report from 1999. Earl has finished the Arkansas Traveller 100 Mile race at least twice. His accomplishments are far too lengthy to report here. Earl is a professor of Microbiology at OSU-Tulsa. He also is the race director for the Lake McMurtry 50K Trail Run.

Dan just may be the most courageous of the bunch. Not only does he put his mug on the Channel 2 airwaves for all to see, he also is usually the first to sign up for the extreme events. Dan has finished strong in two 50 mile races, and done numerous marathons and triathlons. On April 9th he completed his first FULL Ironman Triathlon in 14:02. (That is 14 hours...not minutes) To round out his year he is signed up for the Mother Road 100 Mile. Dan is an all around athlete. He is a good swimmer, a powerful cyclist and I have seen him run. He is blazing. Don't ever think you can outrun him based on the assumption that he has a few more pounds on him than you do!!! He is a good Christian, has two children, and is very active in the Tulsa community. Dan maintains an interesting blog on his website. He is also a bit pompous, he even thinks he can predict the weather!!

Tara started running with the RunnersWorld group in September of 2005. She is an naturally gifted athlete and for the last 12 years Tara has mixed up her fitness routine with weights, cardio, kickboxing and mountain biking. Tara lived in Las Vegas for a while and rode her bike on the trails outside of Vegas.
Tara's very first race she placed 5th in her age group with a time of 27:10 . Pretty impressive considering her first race was the Tulsa Run 5K and she just ran it "easy"with a friend of hers. Tara had her heart set on running in the OKC Marathon but unfortunately got sick right before the race. She is very motivated person and has a wonderful personality.
Here is a quote from Tara, "I met Kathy at Runners World, she invited me to the group, and the rest is history! :) I think I was hooked on running the very first night I came to the group! I used to do a lot of mountain biking when I lived in Las Vegas so I'm excited to get back to the trails - I know running on them will be different than biking but, either way, I love the trails and I'm excited to give trail running a shot!"
Be sure to congratulate Tara on her September 06 marriage to Eric Lukenbill

Alex Eaton is our very own "Speed Demon" You will never see him run a race anything less than full throttle. Alex has done two marathons, came in fourth overall male at the Flatrock 25K, finished the Rockledge Rumble 30K and the AOK 50K trail runs and came in 3rd overall male at the Dan Man 50 Miler. He ran 82 miles before his knee forced him to drop out at the100 Miler at the Arkansas Traveller in October.
Alex loves to run but his true passion is off-road triathlons, specifically the XTERRA Series . Alex has done two of them, one in Norman called the Thunderbird Tri and then he did one in Little Rock called Dawg Dayz These tri's usually consist of a 1/2 mile open water swim, then you hop on your mountain bike and ride 10-15 miles on hilly off-road trails, then you park your bike and run on the trails for 4-6 miles. The amazing thing is that Alex did both of these races on a WAL-MART bike. Alex was crushing the field and half of them were riding $1,000 bikes. Well now Alex has a really nice Specialized bike and will really dominate the field. He is an electrician and has one of the best trail running dogs ever, a rat terrier named Larry.
Alex was forced to drop put of the 2006 Arkansas Traveller due to a serious knee injury. Hover in Feb. 2007, he got his revenge by turning in a 25 hour finish at the Rocky Raccoon in Huntsville Texas.

Joe Hartl is an amazing individual who hails from the great state of Ohio. Joe has done over 20 marathons and hopes to do many more. Joe used to belong to the infamous Findlay Striders Running Club in Ohio. A few of the marathons Joe has done include the Chicago Marathon, Ontario Shore Marathon, Detroit Free Press Marathon, and the Baltimore Marathon. Hopefully Joe can add some trail marathons to his already impressive list of marathons.

Jane heard about the Taturs while working with Sue Mallen at the Aduddel 5 mile race in Tulsa. She is originally from Michigan, joined the Navy for 14 years and that is where she developed her love of running. She has lived and run in Bermuda and Sicily and in the great states of Virginia, Maine, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida and Minnesota. Her PR's happened years ago and states that she needs to make some new ones! Jane has run a Marathon with Team in Training in Georgia. She ran the Mayors Midnight Sun in 1999, her first and only marathon, and her time was 5:20. Jane is hoping to do the Route 66 marathon here this year. Her most recent races have been a 5k in Minneapolis in 2002, her time was 28:03. Jane also ran the Twin Cities 10 miler in 2004 and finished in 1:36. That was one of her most enjoyable races.
Jane loves trail running and is very excited to get back into it again. She used to run trails at Kennesaw Mountain in Georgia, where they had 16 miles of wonderful trails. She made it up to Turkey Mountain and checked out the 5 mile loop Sunday morning..........and stated, "what a great place"!
On a personal note, she moved here from Minnesota with her husband, who also runs, but prefers mountain biking. Jane has two grown sons who are both in the Marine Corp and run because they have too!:) She also has a German Shepard named Buzz who refuses to run in this heat!! :) Jane told me that she looks forward to meeting the rest of the Taturs!

David ran on the cross country team his senior year of high school. He ran a 11:27 in his first 2-mile race, but his season was cut short when he dislocated his hip in his second race. He also ran track, in which he pole vaulted to a state championship and had a PR of 50.5 in the quarter mile. In the summer of 1975 he helped coach a cross county camp for Johnson County Parks and Recreation in Kansas. He injured his back pole vaulting in the winter of 1975 and pretty much became a couch TATUR until September of 2005, when he decided to take up distance running again.
His first race was the Wooloroc Road Race on 10/15/2005, an 8k that he finished in 46:57. His second race was the Tulsa Run 5k on 10/29/2005, which he finished in 25:15. He finished the Route 66 Marathon with with a very impressive time of 4:28:56.

Kathy is our second female triathlete of the group. Kathy is an amazing athlete and her results are proof of all the hard work that she puts into her training. Just one example of her dominance is witnessed by the results of the Spring Fever Triathlon. In this TAT sponsored event in Claremore Kathy placed 5th out of over 70 other top-notch triathletes from all over the the Mid-West.
Kathy and her husband Scott are very active in all aspects of triathlons and Kathy is even the past president of TAT (Tulsa Area Triathletes). Kathy often trains up at Turkey Mountain and we hope to corral you into doing a few trail races and training runs with some of us crazy TATURs. More info to come.

Lisa is another terrific elite athlete who specializes in the Ironman distance triathlons. How many Ironman's has she done? Not one , not two, not three. Brazil makes number twelve!!! Let me reiterate that Ironman distance is swimming 2.4 miles, then getting on the bike and riding for 112 miles, then to top off all that you finish by running a 26.2 mile marathon. That is 140.6 miles in one day!!!!!!!!
Lisa consistently places in the top five in most all the triathlons that she enters. She has gone all over the world showing off her amazing swimming, biking, and running skills. She recently placed fourth at Ironman Brazil with an incredible time of 12:38:39. Lisa also came in second at the Redman Triathlon in Oklahoma City where she dominated the field with her blazing time of 13:02:55. Lisa has been a past president of Tulsa Area Triathletes and volunteers a huge amount of time to ensure the local success of the sport she enjoys.
Lisa is not new to trail races. In fact, at the Lake McMurtry 50K in 2003, she came in 6th place overall (men and women) and scorched the course with a time of 6:03:45. Lisa is the nicest person you would ever hope to meet and looks forward to training on some trails and maybe inspire a few more of us to try to attempt an Ironman.

Priscilla is an amazing and inspirational runner. She is fast, funny, and has a great Canadian accent. Priscilla enjoys running and has signed up for her first marathon, the Route 66 Marathon in November. This young lady is inspiring not only for her ambition to run a marathon, but also for the fact that she is visually impaired.
Priscilla, who turned twenty in May 2006, is going to Rhema Bible College and used to wrestle in high school. She not only likes to run the paved trails, she also wants to try a trail run. So the next time ya hear someone say that they cant run trails, remind them of this amazing individual. We are so proud to have you as a TATUR Priscilla. We will get a better pic of you!

Bill is the guru, legend, instructor, cincee, and master.

Ben is from from Tulsa, but is going to the University of Oklahoma for his MBA and currently lives in NYC for the summer. He plans to run the T&T 25k in September. His family is very active running sprint triathlons and running short run races. Ben looks forward to hanging out with the TATURs this fall when he gets back to Tulsa on August 10th. He will be back and forth from Tulsa to Norman most of the fall, but plans to do several Tulsa races on weekends and would love to do training runs with the group.
In early July, Ben ran his first half-marathon. It was the NYRR Grand Prix Series: Bronx. He ran it in 2:07:05 What a great time, especially considering he had never raced over five miles before. He has three more races in NYC this summer. Then will do the T&T 25k, the Jenks half-marathon, and the Route 66 full marathon.
Ben, we look forward to meeting and running with you and your family.

David has been running more or less regularly for nearly forty years and hopes to be able to run even more regularly for at least forty more. He says he is a plodder, and as a plodder he gets to enjoy each race for about twice as long as the fast folks. Back before Western States had a lottery and before The Barkley was 100 miles David used to travel to a few ultras a year but these days his job, family, and finances keep him a lot closer to home. David hopes to start traveling again within the next few years and am preparing a list of the races he'd like to enter. In David's prime he used to be able to run a mile in less than six minutes and once ran a sub 20 minute 5K. And a long time ago he was able to run 100 miles in less than 24 hours. But these days his primary goal in races is to finish, and if he does so before the clock gets turned off, so much the better. David states, "that 21:55 they gave me at the Riverside 5000 was a lot faster than my actual time". David generally runs alone, not because he is anti-social but in David's words, "because there are few people that can run as slow as I do". David also would like everyone to know that he is glad to have found a group of running folks who seem to enjoy the camaraderie as much as the running and hopes to get to know us better.

Tom and his wife Julie both work for Bank of Oklahoma in the Operations side. They have lived in Tulsa, on the east side, for almost two years and really enjoy the area and the opportunities that it provides. Tom took up running again in April 2005 to supplement his weight training. He started entering some races and has enjoyed all that running has provided for him and his family. Tom discovered Turkey Mountain and started trail running and really feels at home when he is in the woods. Tom grew up in a small town in Illinois and spent a lot of time outdoors.
Tom we are really excited to have you and your family as TATURs.

Ron moved down from Michigan in 1999 with his wife Beth to get his Masters in Geology at the University of Tulsa. Currently they have a little 2 ½ year old son and 8 month old daughter, so a lot of his training runs are pushing a stroller with his kids. Ron works for a small independent Oil and Gas exploration company and spends a lot of time working in NW Osage County. In the spring and fall he likes to get out and go canoeing, mountain biking and hiking. Ron states that the summers get a little hot in Tulsa, so he enjoys spending time with his family and swimming in the cold (65°) and clear Lake Michigan.
Ron is a great guy and family man who recently set a PR at the Riverside 5000 race with a sub 20 minute 19:55. Ron is signed up to run the 25K at the Turkey and Taturs Trail run.

Jim is husband to Marie, Dad to Amanda, Gramps to Meah, and Food Guy to Sadie the Corgi, Jake the cat and Louie the alternate cat. He's been a Tulsa boy since age eight. He's worked as a land development consultant since 1980 with nine years on the public side at INCOG. He organizes bicycle events such as the DAM J.A.M. Bicycle Tour and Tulsa Tough Ride and Race, loves to hike, run, bike, swim, garden, feed the birds, and dream about what he'll do when he grows up or wins the lottery.
He has been on a bicycle more or less since the mid 70's and started running in 1992. Jim has always been a swimmer and did his first triathlon in 1995. He used to obsess about time and interval training and keeping a log and using a heart rate monitor. But he says it got to be too much like like work so now he just goes with how it feels. He says that it's a lot more fun to enjoy the events and let finishing be a bonus.
Jim has done several 25k and 50k trail races in Oklahoma and Arkansas, Grand Canyon R2R once, Pikes Peak Ascent once, inaugural OKC Memorial Marathon, and dozens of day hikes in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Colorado, and New Mexico. He loves triathlons and has done about 25-30 from sprint to Half Ironman and two Ironmans - Ultramax 2002 and IM Arizona 2005.

Joshua has been married to his wife Michelle for three years and has three cats, Lucy, Rocky and Bucky and rabbit, Charlie. He enjoys fishing and building wood boats....and yes he fishes out of the wood boats and none have sunk......yet. Joshua says he always gets asked that question. He has lived in Golden, CO for about 12 years and enjoyed the trails there years ago and thought he'd get off the couch and get moving again. Joshua's name can be found in many of the 5K results here in Tulsa.

Greg is an all around athlete who runs roads and trails, mountain bike, road bikes and is extremely fast at all of his pursuits.

As long as Shannon can remember, her goal was to "someday" run a marathon, even though she was not a runner. In June 2003, she decided that "someday" was then. Shannon started training , and 6 months later, she completed the Dallas White Rock Marathon in 4:39:47. She says she was hooked. Shannon started training for her next marathon, but an injury sidelined her running. Shannon fought with the injury for almost a year, Shannon states, "Due to my own stupidity, since I know better than my Doctor!!"
Shannon finally started training again in Jan. 2005. She talked her good friend Barbara West into doing the OKC 1/2 marathon with her. So, in April 05, they completed the OKC half-marathon in 2:06:xx. They then started training for the 2005 St. Jude Marathon. Midway into the training, Shannon was injured again. She decided that she could still make it thru the 1/2 in Memphis. On the way to Memphis, she had a very risky idea, that she carried out the next day. She ran the full marathon and finished in 4:52:xx. BAD IDEA!!! She regretted that decision for days to come!
Shannon ran the Texas Half-marathon in April 2006 (she does not recommend this race--very few aid stations, poor crowd support, and it was extremely hot for April!) Shannon finished in 2:25. After that, she was getting burned out on pounding the pavement. She read Dean Karnazes book, and was inspired. She decided that she wanted to do an ultra. But it couldn't be all pavement. So she decided that she needed to try trail running, before she committed to a training schedule. Her husband Greg took her out to Turkey Mountain, and she was hooked (even though her 1st trail experience was in the rain, jumping puddles, and sliding everywhere.) She loved every minute of it (except for the snake!). She ran the T&T 25K and finished in 3:28:xx.
She is trying to find the perfect 50-mile race that combines both road and trail--and insight would greatly be appreciated. Greg and her have been married for 9 years, they have 2 children--Carson is 7 and Keaton is 4.

Barbara has been running for two years and has two children. Barbara and her husband Matt are great people

Bret's running career began on the road. He has finished six road marathons and too many local road races to count. Bret discovered trail running in 2003 with the Palo Duro 20K.
He states,"my real passion (other than my sexy wife) is Ultrarunning. The more challenging the better (just like my wife)".
Bret and his wonderful wife Angela reside in Oklahoma City. Bret has been very busy in his running career. Here is a sampling of some of the many events that Bret has finished:
Palo Duro 50K (twice), Pikes Peak Marathon, Lake Thunderbird Xterra Triathlon, Grasslands 50 Mile (twice), DanMan 50 Mile (twice), Toe Stumpin 5-Mile Trail Run, Lake McMurtry 25K, 50K, Rocky Raccoon 50K, SunMart 50K, Sooner State Games Trail 12K, A-OK 50K, San Juan Solstice 50 Mile (twice and is his favorite event, Texas State Championship Adventure Race with Dave Wood, Turkey and TATURS 50K, and the Mother Road 100.
Here is a great example of what a great athlete Bret is. In December of 2005 Bret did what is called the Texas Double. On December 10th he ran the Sunmart 50K Trail Run in 5:00:58. Then the next day, December 11th, drove six hours to Dallas and ran the Dallas White Rock Marathon in 3:49:58. What a stud!!
Running is not Bret's only gig, he also competes in duathlons such as the March in Okarche Duathlon and tri's like the Tie Dye Tri in Norman Oklahoma. He is a USA Triathlon Certified Official (CAT2). Wait there is more, not only does Bret compete in endurance events, he also gives back to the running community by volunteering his valuable time. Bret is the Race director for the Draper Lake Duathlon since 2004, which was held on July 9th of 2006. He is also the Race Director of the marathon leg of the Redman Iron Distance Triathlon. since 2005. We are not done yet, Bret is also on the Board of Directors for the TRI-OKC Triathlon Club and also was the co-race director for the Mother Road 100 Mile Race in November. Bret, when do you find time to sleep. Holy Moly!!!!
Bret is a great runner, the nicest guy in the world, and is a superb athlete!! Bret's next adventure is the Mother Road 100 Miler. Good Luck Bret.
Tom began running seven years ago. He lost 70 pounds and ran his first marathon within six months. He was hooked. Then a year or so later he began running some trails and that was even better. The first trail/ultra run he entered was the Athens Big Fork Trail Marathon in 2000 after the big ice storm. Tom was very nervous because it was cold and icy and was his first trail run. The course had been so damaged by trees that they changed the course and they still had to work their way through, over and under fallen trees every fifty yards. But Tom loved it! He has been running ultras ever since and here are some of his highlights:
Athens-Big Fork Trail Marathon - Three Time Winner and Course Record Holder - 4:34
Sylamore Trail 50K - Two Time Winner - 4:14 PR for 50K
White Rock 50K - Numerous Finishes But Never Won
Pikes Peak Marathon - 5:32
Golden Gate Headlands Trail Marathon - San Francisco - Winner - 3:16
Ouachita Trail 50M - Finisher - 1st 50 Miler - Really Suffered but Finished - 9:20
Pacer for Greg Eason and Steve Kirk for first 50 of Ouachita Trail Thru Run
Voyageur Trail 50 Miler - 7:59 PR and 2nd Place
Arkansas Traveler 100 Miler - 17:47 PR and Winner
On the Road (not as much fun) Tulsa Run - 55:40 - 6 sub 60 cups going for 7 Marathon PR - 2:55 Paced 3:15 Group in Little Rock Marathon for the First Three Years 5K - 17:10 Numerous Triathlon and Duathlons (far less fun than trails) Redman Iron Distance - 4th Place - 11:47 Lake Degray 1/2 Iron - 4:52
Tom says he can be competitive but it is the spirit, camaraderie and just finishing that really attracts him to trail and ultra running. They are the nicest people in the world and everyone just wants to enjoy life on the trails. Outside of running |Tom has a wife Suzanne and three children - Madeline 4, Olivia 3, and Jim 1.
Tom also won the Arkansas Traveller 100 Mile Trail Race in October of 2006 with a time of 17:47:16.

Kari and Mike live in Tryon , Oklahoma . Kari is a self-employed soil scientist consultant and Mike is a groundwater consultant/branch manager for Layne Christensen in Cushing. With the exception of taking a few years off for their three daughters (she ran until three days before delivery), Kari has been running since high school track……many years ago, and loves running even more now.
Mike has had 2 ACL surgeries on one knee (playing cowboy….. many years ago), so he power walks, and if he doesn't’t participate in the races, he fulfills the role of that important support person for Kari. In 2002, the Sever family completed the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon as a 5-member relay team and Kari had the ultimate pleasure of running entire length of the race with each family member. In 2003, the family (with three teenage daughters) participated in the Breckenridge 5 mile mountain run, and cheered Kari on as she crossed the 10 mile finish line.
They live way out in the country, so Kari kicks up the dust on the gravel roads with Shasta, their Dalmatian, and their Husky, Summit . Mike eats her dust. Kari runs the Tulsa Run and Lake McMurtry Trail Run nearly every year. They live near Bell Cow Lake in Chandler , so Kari frequently runs the equestrian trails, and Mike practices his tracking and fishing skills. Mike and Kari also enjoy hiking, backcountry backpacking, camping, snowboarding, and wakeboarding.

Raton is an elite runner, and a terrific individual who downplays his amazing speed and tenacity. Raton also loves doing events that are off the beaten path, no pun intended. He is an accomplished climber, mountain biker, hiker, and races road bikes for Bicycles of Tulsa and basically loves to be outdoors.
Raton has been running on and off for the last 20 years since his mom and step dad got him started when he was in high school. He started running trails in college when his roommate and him discovered Turkey Mountain. Raton has done lots of adventure races and other crazy things with the Rollin’ Fools including a few trips to Pikes Peak and the Grand Canyon. The picture above is his rim to rim to rim run. He is at the bottom of the Grand Canyon with only the north side left to go. (They ran north-south-north). What an amazing adventure that must have been. To read more about Raton's Grand Canyon exploits, click here.
Raton says that he knows a few TATURS and hopes to meet more out on the trails.

Bill Richardson has been running since October of 1983 breaking for a few injuries and sickness but for the most part keeping up the pace. He and his wife Shonna have 6 children: 3 daughters, 1 son, and 2 son-in-laws. They moved to the country a few years ago and Bill has a 1.75 mile trail that he uses to train on. When he first started out, Bill tried unsuccessfully to complete a marathon 3 times until finishing the old Tulsa Marathon in the fall of 1989.
Bill has ran a 2:47:02 and has been hooked on distance running ever since. He has run on 4 continents in his travels and just enjoys getting out and getting away from everything on a good ole long trail run cross-country style! He attempted his first 100 miler with the Mother Road 100 but virtually passed out at about mile 83, but plans on completing a 100 miler before the end of 2007.
Running has been a way of life for Bill and he was a cross-country and track coach for 7 years at Perry, Oklahoma, before taking on some new opportunities in life at Stillwater, Oklahoma. Every year since he has turned 30, he has run his age in miles on his birthday, sometimes taking quite awhile but always finishing. Bill has also run in several of the Okie Relays from Elkhart, Kansas to Texoma, Texas, completing the first inaugural individual race in 6:15 for 41.2 miles in the late 80’s.

Jonathan looks look forward to being part of the club although an ironic thing happened. He turned in his registration to Kathy Hoover at RunnersWorld on 1/2/07, then the next day he got a call from his company and accepted a position down in Dallas. He still plans on coming back to Tulsa for races and other things fairly often, so not much will change in the running world.
Jonathan looks forward to putting some faces with names. He has met Kathy at Runners World and has run into Brian Hoover outside of Best Buy right after the T&T 50K. He know Johnny Spriggs from work, and has known Randy Ellis since he was 2. Other than that he has just seen the names on the website, so he says it will be nice to meet everyone at future races.
Jonathan has a second career as a soccer referee. It takes up a lot of his time outside of 8-5. He referees college, high school, and semi-pro leagues in OK, TX, AR, and KS. He is pretty much involved in everything from youth leagues to Big XII and Conference USA games.
Jonathan was severely out of shape and his soccer bosses told him that if he got in shape he could start getting higher games. In 2001 he started running a few miles every week outside of the actual games. Slowly that turned into 2 mile runs. Slowly that turned into 3 mile runs. His first race was the Tulsa Run in 2003 - that was the first time that he ever ran without stopping. He was hooked and decided to run as part of a relay team in the OKC marathon in 2004, however, another buddy wanted to join the team so he decided to do the full, but didn't really follow a training routine and paid for it dearly. He learned from that, but still had a blast running the marathon.
At some point Jonathan would like to do a 100 mile race. He states, "the trouble is that I have to find these marathons and ultras that fit around soccer season. February through November for soccer. It's tough to fit anything more than a half in. I'm at the point now where I would rather not referee a game and do a race instead. We'll see how 2007 goes"

Well this pic is what happens when you over train…. :+)
Carolyn comes from a swimming and bicycling background with a lot of sailing thrown in for good measure. She did her first tri (Spring Fever in 2005) with ZERO running training. ZIP, NADA. ZILCH. She says it wasn't’t a pretty run, but states that she sure had fun and was hooked from the moment she finished. She did her first Tulsa Run later that year after only three sprint triathlons, figuring, “well I took about an hour and a half to do each of those so I bet I can run for an hour and a half”. And she did. Fellow TATers and TATURS, Lisa Wei-Haas, and Kathy and Scott Ostrem have been her cheerleaders ever since. She thinks she can finally say she is a triathlete having done about 10 or so now. Carolyn has a turtle tattoo that she got before she started in multisport. She says it turns out to be an appropriate icon of her relatively new found passion for endurance sports.
But she says she is not a trail runner. Yet. Seeing all the TATURs come to the TAT Polar Bear Swim really inspired her to support the group and to vary her running. She have been a big advocate of “cross-pollination” among the various swim/bike/run groups in the Tulsa area. After two years of triathloning and feeling sort of like an imposter, she says she can finally call herself a runner, albeit not a flashy, fast one. She has even screwed 23 hex-headed 3/8” screws into each of her Nikes (but not into her beloved Mizunos) so she could run in the ice recently. When she bought the screws, the hardware guy asked her if she was a runner and she had to admit, "Yes, I guess I am" . Carolyn even says that there are other warning signs too!
She looks forward to running more both on trails and roads. And hopes to run with the TATURS as soon as she gets up to speed. She lives on some acreage right next to a quarry and it has some nice trails all around it and some go up a big hill so she is all psyched up now for this trail running stuff!
This year, she is doing Ironman Wisconsin; Buffalo Springs 70.3 (a “half-iron”); and as many small running races as her tri coach will let her do; the Tulsa Tough double century bike ride; The Hotter’n Hell Hundred bike ride and some other B-race triathlons. She may also do a swim meet in August….

Jason has a wonderful wife, Angie, of almost 12 years and have 4 super kids. Together they run a small farm on the edge of Siloam Springs, AR. They raise broilers (chickens) and beef cattle. Jason also sells insurance, investments and does financial planning. Besides running, his other hobbies include hunting, real estate, option trading, racquetball and swimming. Jason says he was hoping to become the first AR-Tatur. I got into trail running in 2005 and has been hooked ever since. He says that running is his way of escape. He enjoys being outdoors and claims that running allows him to get away from work, enjoy exercise, not to mention the endorphins are great! His philosophy is that some day he will not be able to run, some day he may not desire to run, but it ain' t gonna be today!
Some of his career sport highlights include:
*** Placed 24th in the Arkansas State High Decathlon in 1992.
*** Placed 3rd in the D/C division of the US Open Racquetball Championship in 2000.
*** First and only person to have ever lettered in 6 sports in the same year (1992) at Prairie Grove High School (football, basketball, cross country, track, tennis, baseball) It might have been more, that was just the only sports they offered at the time. I was also the drum major of the band while playing football during the same season.
*** Placed 10th in the 400 m hurdles at the NAIA National Championships 1996.
*** Finished first 100 mile endurance run in October of 2006.
*** Ran the Arkansas Marathon with Dean Karnazes during his 50/50/50 marathon campaign in November 2006
*** Saw Michael Johnson break the world record in the 200 meters (19.32) and the 400 meters in 1996 at the Olympics in Atlanta, GA.
*** Ran around the old Olympic stadium in Athens Greece and saw the original location on Mt. Olympus in Greece where the first Olympic games were held.Jason's running career goals:
Finish Western States 100 under 24 hours
Break 8 hours on a 50 miler
Break 3:20 on a marathon
Break 40 minutes on a 10K

Endurance riding is Susan's passion. She has been riding horses in endurance races all over the U.S. since 1986. These races are 50, 55, 60, 75 and 100-miles long. She also enjoys the multi-day rides which are usually 55 miles a day for 3 to 6 days. In order to help her horse, she has made it her goal to get off and run/walk with him. That takes conditioning, so she says if she is going to condition, she might as well do some races.
Susan's first race, and she says that she uses that term quite loosely, was the Flower Power 5K road race in Muskogee. It was a fund raiser for the OK School for the Blind, which is where she teaches. So, she had another incentive to condition. Since she does so much riding and that takes a toll on her knees, she decided it’d be better for her to racewalk rather than run. Susan also loves "Ride and Ties" Two people; one horse. One person rides a mile or so while the other runs. The rider ties the horse up and takes off running. The other runner catches up and rides the horse. They leap frog like that for 8 to 35 miles. It's LOADS of fun!
She found out about the Turkey and TATURS trail run through her friend with whom she rides endurance. Her friend actually runs and is very good. They thought it’d be right up their alley to do the trail run so they entered the 10K. Susan says that she was hooked! She loved being out on the trail and the people were fantastic! Susan has ridden at Turkey Mountain once a million years ago. She states, It was fun except for coming across the...um..."locals" who were...um...having relations with their "partners".
She proclaims that speed isn't’t her game...unless she's driving or riding. She says a slug passed her at the 2007 Toe Stumpin’ Trail Run but she did make it around the entire 10-mile course. Granted, just about everyone had gone home when she finished and the oatmeal was gone but she maintains that she did get a cookie. Susan explains that none of her times are impressive so she won’t waste the time looking all of them up. Someone had a neat name for their team at one of the runs and it fits her perfectly; “Slow is the new fast!”
Her next goal is to finish the Turkey and TATURS 50K then do the Route 66 marathon. She's conditioning by getting off and running/walking with her horse on endurance races. The picture is of her 19 year-old Arabian gelding, MK Khum Khaleb (aka Charlie Brown) and her at the 2007 Cougar Prowl 50 mile Endurance Race near Okmulgee, OK. This was her horse's first race in a year and a half so they just took their time and finished in 9:27. Last year she won won that race in 4:55.
Susan looks forward to meeting her fellow TATURS. Susan explains, "If we’re at a race, you’ll probably lap me so we’ll get a chance to say Hi! at least"

Carie is 40 years old, married with two teenage daughters. She has been running for three years and has been doing triathlon training for one year. She loves being outdoors and loves running. Carie is looking forward to the trail run, I loves being at the lake and enjoys nature.
Between Carie's training, full time job, family, she stays very busy. You've probably seen her running the trails i.e. R Riverside, Creek etc.. She has been to several competitions and says that she is not that fast. Carie just goes at a steady pace loves running her 20-30 miles on weekends. During the week she tries to run 10 miles a day. Her average pace on long runs with a fuel pack varies from 10-11 minute miles. A ten mile run without a fuel pack she averages 9-10 minute miles. Carie also swims 2-3 miles. Once in awhile she rides her bike anywhere from 18-60 miles. She has done triathlons and marathons and now look forward to going on to becoming an ultrarunner.
Congrats on joining TATUR. We are thrilled to have you as a member.

Bill has participated in the Toe Stumper 10 miler in early 2007, and he looks forward to many more. He has been running on and off for about 20 years and says that he has been been consistently mediocre throughout. Bill has participated in triathlons, road races and adventure races. He is married to a runner (road only so far) and they have 3 wonderful children 15, 16 and 23.
He works rotating shift work (two out of four weekends off a month) in the refinery in Ponca City. He is looking forward to getting to know everyone and hitting some trails. Bill did his first ultra marathon in a race that started at midnight and circled a 3.1 mile park loop ten times. He blazed his way to a super fast finish of 5:22:46 and came in 19th place!!! That Tatur shirt sure looks good on that tropical beach!!!

Robert is a college student still. He attends University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, AR (where he just finished the Hogeye marathon), but is currently doing an engineering internship in the Tulsa area. He first began running almost a year ago after being inspired by a marathon running friend. His first 5k was very successful and he got to have his picture taken with Apolo Anton Ohno. What an inspiration. He began running in earnest in the beginning of January '07 after making a resolution to run a marathon. He now plans to run 3 marathons before '07 ends and hopes to begin running Ultras in '08.
Robert is also a member of the University of Arkansas Razorback Marching Band where he plays trumpet. His non-running interests include Music, Swing Dancing, Tennis, and Frisbee. Robert chose to join TATURs because he was looking for a group to help push him along in his running goals and to find some community. He heard about TATUR through okrunner.com looking at running groups online.

Lexi's family consists of herself, her boyfriend Rich who is into bicycling (racing and touring), her four weenie dogs, 5 chickens, and a whole load of horses with which she competes in endurance racing. She also manages the Ride 'Em Cowboys Endurance Ride in June in Stillwater, OK. Lexi became interested in trail running in the summer of 2005 when her horse underwent colic surgery and couldn't compete for awhile. She didn't do any organized runs until last May after joining the Cherokee Nation Wings Program. Since then, she has done quite a few 5Ks (the Flower Power April 21 being her fastest 5K), a couple of 10Ks (including the Turkey & TATUR 10K), the Tulsa Run, the Toe Stumpin' 10 mile trail run, and the Lake McMurtry Trail Run 25K. She would like to do the longer trail runs eventually. Lexi signed up for her first Ride & Tie (14 miler) in June of 2007but her running partner for it wimped out so she is still waiting to try that. Lexi found out about TATUR when she saw the info for the Turkey & TATUR run last fall on trailrunner.com and also her friend and fellow TATUR, Susan Young, said she should join.

Austen's first race was the Claremore Classic 1 mile Fun Run. Since then he has run several 5K's, a very tough 10K Trail Run and the OKC . half marathon (2:39:37) at age 14, with no training. Austen runs track for Vinita and competes in the pole vault and the 800m.

Christy and Todd belong to their two year old, Cadan “Charlie” Masters. Christy has been running off and on since Middle School (just a few years back). Her first Trail run was the first annual “Escape from Turkey Mountain ” and she has been wanting to do more since. Todd, who has been saving his knees and ligaments for the last leg of the race of life, plans to participate in at least one upcoming Trail run. We learned about the TATURs on a posting at Turkey Mountain and are excited about the upcoming runs and community support events!

Nels Bentson completed the MS2S (Mongolia Sunrise to Sunset) 42 K in Hosvgal, Mongolia on July 9, 2008 time was10:12. Placed 9th in the over 50 age group, yes I know that sounds very slow for a marathon, I have actually completed 50 milers in a shorter time, however if you saw the elevation chart and the fact that the run was all on very rough mountain trails it actually wasn’t too bad. Actually made Turkey Mountain look almost flat!
Anyway, the website says to submit run results for posting, so here it is the good, bad and ugly! Only Australia to go and I will be a Tatur and a member of “The Seven Continents Club”, actually I am more proud of my Tatur membership! Donna and I really enjoy all the Taturs we just wish we could attend more of the events. The Taturs is the only running club I talk about and even though I am a past president of the OKC Running Club and have been a member for over 20 years. You have put together a great group of runners I only wish you had started the Taturs about 30 years ago, maybe you will start a Taturs senior citizens division!
Nels is one of Oklahoma's most seasoned ultra runners. Nels has competed in hundreds of races across the nation/world and continues to race often. Nels' company, Cashland, was the presenting sponsor of the 2007 & 2008 Turkey & Taturs Trail Race. Nels has also ran marathons on almost all seven continents. His last was a marathon in Mongolia, which is where the above picture was taken.

Keith and Tammy are one of those special couples that you may only meet once in a lifetime. They are helpful supportive and absolutely chock full of energy!!! Keith is an avid mtn. biker, road cyclist and trail runner. Tammy is a running dynamo. She rarely takes a day off and usually runs at least twenty miles a day.
Both provided huge support for the 2006 Turkey and Taturs Trail Race. Keith stood out in the cold rain for the duration of the 50K acting as a course marshall at the 10K/25K split. He did this with no umbrella, canopy or any shelter, just him and a rain parka. Thanks Keith, you are a stud.
Tammy got totally fired up to help with the Turkey and Taturs Trail Race and basically started cold calling banks merchants, Pepsi, Quick Trip, dentists, and dozens of other businesses which could not refuse Tammy's charm. She was responsible for providing almost all the great stuff that went into the goody bags, the drinks on the course, the start/finish, door prizes and many other supplies crucial to the race. If you received anything form the T&T Trail Race, there is a good chance that Tammy was responsible for providing it!!!
Then Tammy went on place fourth in the inaugural T&T Trail Race and turned in a fantastic time of 6:31:29.

Paul started running in July 2006, first time in 20 years. Paul started running to lose weight & lost 45 lbs and ran hisfirst 5K in of Oct 2006 in 27:46. He learned about trail running, joined the Taturs and set a goal to run the Leadville 100 and Western States in under 24 hours and complete the Grand slam of ultra running. Paul then entered the Tulsa Race Series and finished second in points in 2007. During 2007 he ran a whopping thirty-two 5k to 15k races, two half marathons, three marathons, one 50k, one 50 mile, and the Texas Double.

Jennifer is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at the University of Oklahoma . A former gymnast, Jennifer was introduced to trail running when she met Earl Blewett (TATUR #24). Jennifer’s hobbies include meditation, swimming, playing poker, and hanging out with “the girls” (Polly, Chestnut, and Callie, Earl and Jennifer’s 2 Chesapeake Bay retrievers and calico cat). Jennifer completed her first ever trail run (the Flatrock 25 K) in 2006 and participated in the TATUR poker run in 2007. When not crewing for Earl, Jennifer can be seen volunteering at events including the Turkey and TATURS run, the MS 150 bike ride, and the Lake McMurtry Trail run.

I wanted to take a minute and introduce myself and give you a little background information. I am a wife of 14 years and a mother of a 6 and a 4 year old. Last year I was a fitness teacher at my son’s preschool (nothing like herding cats for a living) I have been teaching water aerobics at St. Francis Health Zone for several years and I am an in-home personal trainer. I have a BS degree in the field of health from OSU and a few certifications to boot American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), Medical Exercise Specialist (MES), and a little Egoscue training.
I began trail running back in 97’ but got a little spooked and stuck to the road for the next few years. I gave up running after finding out I was expecting a baby in 01’ plus I had been battling ITBS for months so, at the time, it was no hardship for me. When my son turned 2 in 06’ I started back running and have not stopped and can’t stop. I have run many 5ks and 10ks some half marathons and two Marathons now I am on to my next goal …my first ultra run and it’s right here The Turkey and Taturs 50k!!!
In the looming fear that Brian Hoover would make up stories about her if she didn't turn in her bio... After being born and raised in Tulsa, Alana Yates left to play collegiate soccer at a small, Division II school in North Carolina. She coached collegiate and youth soccer before becoming a personal trainer in the northern Virginia and Washington D.C. areas. Alana moved back home three years ago, and now serves as the Private Training Manager for Exerbotics Premier Fitness Studios, a new training facility opening in Utica Square in December, 2007. She is trained as a Medical Exercise Specialist and Posture Alignment Specialist through the Egoscue Method, so her specialties include training post-rehabilitation and special population clients. She frequently offers lectures at Fleet Feet for runners. Alana has run many 5K's and 10K's in the last 8 years, and most recently added marathons, half-marathons, and trail running. She still views herself as a beginning "runner," particularly with trail running, and is excited about the new challenge! Her goal is to someday complete an adventure race and with Brian Hoover's nagging/encouragement, maybe even the Tatur 50K next year! (Don't hold your breath!)
Her best times, so far (emphasis on, "so far!")

Kathyrn grew up in Tulsa and will be moving back to T-Town in December of 2007. Her husband is in the Air Force, so while he is stationed in Korea for a year Kathryn is moving back home with her family. She loves ultra running and trails. Kathryn was excited to hear about TATUR. She had no idea that there were so many "dark side" runners in Tulsa (she always jokes about falling to the dark side when people do an ultra). Kathryn went to Bishop Kelley and ran track and cross-country there(of course the long distances) Kathyrn plans on doing the Firetrails 50 Miler in Oakland CA on October 13, 2007 and the Avalon 50 Miler on Catalina Island on Jan 12, 2008)

Charlotte has been running since she could walk (so let's say about 55 years). She did her first marathon in 1975 when it was five loops around Mohawk Park. She quit counting races and keeping track of her times many years ago. Charlotte has raced all distances until 1991 when a pelvic fracture left her with femoral nerve compression which her taken me out of shorter races (anything shorter than 13.1). Her best races were the Hospital Hill half marathon, 1:32 and the Las Vegas Marathon 3:24. Charlotte states that "Both of those races were a long time ago". Now, she runs about 60 miles per week at a very relaxed pace (which she explains is the only pace she know these days). During the last few years her marathon times have been in the 3:43 to 3:54 range.
Charlotte started Adventure Racing in 2000 and has completed a couple of races with fellow TATUR, Dennis Crosby. She really enjoys the variety of activities and teamwork required in the sport. She participated in her first ultra trail run, the Rockledge Rumble, in 11/07 and now has a real appreciation for the asphalt. She spent alot of time face down but went away from the trail race feeling like "I want to do this again".
Charlotte moved back to Tulsa this year after living away for 30 years. She is a private practice relationship coach and specializes in coaching single, active people who want to achieve their life vision through discovering who they are, what they really want and how to get it.

Scott has been an avid adventure racer for the past 5 years. His sports background mainly focused around football, wrestling, and basketball with a year of cross country and track. His start to running was due to an upper body injury in football. It was an early season-ending injury for contact sports. So his wrestling coach thought it would be a good idea for Scott to join the cross-country team to stay in shape. Since this was the first time he had ever ran over a mile, the first few weeks of cross-country were painful. But by the end of the season he was the #4 runner on the team.
After a couple years of college football, the running shoes were put in the closet. Joining the real world gave him the opportunity to meet his lovely wife of 12 years, Aunna. Today they have two kids, Brooke an 11 year old girl and Chance a 9 year old boy.
Scott started back running about 5 years ago when his sister-in-law invited him to do an Adventure Race in Atlanta. It consisted of running, mountain biking and a paddle all in one event. Since then there have been many Adventure Races of varying lengths from 8 hours to 24 hours in length.
Long term goals are mainly focused around staying healthy and running or biking or AR'ing the best he can. Doing all this while enjoying his family and what life has to offer.

Jack is 44 years old and only started running about a year and a half ago. He started originally for health reasons. About 2 years ago he was extremely overweight, smoked, and had some serious health issues. He began walking/running and lost a lot of weight, and his health problems have gotten much better, although he says that he still needs to lose a few pounds. Jack stopped smoking also. He found out very quickly how much he loves running, and began running some 5k’s. About a year ago he ran a trail 5k in the Willow Springs State Park here in Arkansas. Jack says that it was tough, buttha the heI had a ball. Since then, he's been running local trails and having a blast doing so. His “PR” is about 31 minutes for a street 5K and his goals are to improve his times some, and to run a few 10k’s this spring and summer. He'd like to run the Turkey and Taturs 10K this year, and finish in a “reasonable” time!
Jack grew up just outside Claremore, OK, but has lived in NW Arkansas, currently Bella Vista, for the past 20 years. His wife Mary and him have a 25 year old son who lives in Wisconsin, and he works in the IS Department at Tyson Foods, in Springdale, AR. He looks forward to joining in on some TATUR runs in the future!

Ben Holmes, (known as Bad Ben), is married and has two kids, (ages 25 and 27), and a grandson, (age 5). He lives in the Kansas City Area. He works 50 hours per week for a large company. He likes to travel, homebrew, build and maintain trails, and organize running events. In 2008, he'll be race-directing 14 events, and participating in 22 trail events, including two 100-milers. He is a co-founding member of the Kansas City Trail Nerds. He is also a board member of the Kansas City Track Club, which puts on 32 events per year, and a board member of the Earth Riders Trails Association.
Ben Holmes has run in 38 road marathons, and over 40 trail ultras. He has also run in over 300 other distance events in the past 29 years. Previously, he's been a martial arts instructor, a triathlete, a long-distance cyclist, and a "vertical" caver. A few years ago, he had his "moment of zen" regarding his running pursuits. He was poised at the starting line of the Boston Marathon in 2000 when he had a realization: "I hate this." Not the running, exactly, but the noise and the crowd and the abuse his body took pounding 26.2 miles on cold, hard pavement. Back in Kansas City, he already had abandoned the streets in favor of training on local trails; when he got back from Boston, Holmes became the founding member of the Kansas City Trail Nerds and put together an e-mail group site (http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/kctrailrunning), and a website (www.psychowyco.com) to coordinate group runs in off-road locations. He also manages a road group running site with 900 members (http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/kcrunning), and a few blogs.
To get your butt in gear, the Nerds host as many as eight training runs each week at nearby locations. Be sure to remember your headlamp for the well-attended weeknight runs, though. Ben is raising-up a crop of first-rate ultrarunners; many of them win, set records, or are in the top 5 of every race they enter. In February 2007, five Trail Nerds will toe the line at RR100.
Promotion of the sports of trailrunning and ultrarunning, and off-pavement trail advocacy is Ben's continuous obsession. Long term goals include staying trained well-enough and healthy-enough to compete in at least one "mountain hundred" per year, and to retire at age 62. His ultimate goal: to be able to run an ultramarathon with his grand-kids.

Doug is most recognizable as the guy that you see riding his "trail" equipped unicycle up at Turkey Mtn. Doug can traverse just about any terrain that a mountain biker can and make it look easy. Doug has just gotten into running trails and is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. Hopefully Doug will send us some more info about himself and the sport of unicycling.

Susan has been happily married to her highschool sweetheart for 29 years. She has one daughter and one granddaughter. She works for a middle school which she states can be a challenge. Susan just started running in January of 07' then had to quit due to illness. She started back in May 07' and has been doing better and better everyday in her running thanks to her wonderful coach Kathy. Susan's first race was the Tulsa Run which was life changing because she says she is now hooked! Susan has also done the RT. 66 Quarter Marathon. She enjoys the running along with the many friendships she has made. Her next big goal is to do the OKC half marathon in April. Susan says that she truly enjoys the TATUR group and hopes to do a little trail running soon.

Keith is an avid racewalker and started in 2003 with the Sandblazer. It was a morning race in a lightning storm and he says that didn't know what he was getting himself into. Keith completed his 100th race on New Year's Eve at the Race Into the New Year. He did his first marathon in 2006 at the Route 66 Marathon and also completed the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon and Route 66 in 2007. Keith has served on the Tulsa Running Club Board since January 2007. He was the head coach of the Advanced Walking Program for Fleet Feet Sports in the Fall of 2007. The completion race was the Route 66 Quarter Marathon. This spring I will be the head coach for the half marathon walking pace group with Fleet Feet. Keith has done both Turkey & TATUR races and plans to complete the trifecta this year.

Brady Paddock, 41, was a respectable miler and two miler in the mid 1980s at Southside High School in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. But college, law school, marriage, two children, a legal career, the passage of time, and plain old laziness turned him into a sports spectator rather than participant. However, about four years ago, Brady began the transformation from couch potato to marathoner, triathlete, and trail runner. A good friend talked him into “running a bit.” The running led to his first marathon attempt at the White Rock Marathon in Dallas in ‘04. Brady’s White Rock Marathon effort ended in agony and hallucinations after 3 hours, 43 minutes, and 22 seconds. After the race, he vowed to never run another marathon. The vow was short lived, however, as he’s now completed numerous marathons including those in Dallas, Chicago (twice), Boston, and Big Sur.
His road marathon PR is 2:58:56 at Chicago in ‘06. In August ‘07, he finished his first Ironman Triathlon at Louisville, Kentucky in 11:05:39. Most recently, on January 5, 2008, he finished third at the Athens-Big Fork Trail Marathon in 4:59:00. His proudest running accomplishment to date is the third place finish at the Athens-Big Fork Trail Marathon. The Athens – Big Fork Trail Marathon is the most challenging endurance event Brady has undertaken to date. The speed with which Tom Brennan and Darby Benson run those Athens – Big Fork mountains is scary and borderline insane! Though relatively new to the sport,
Brady loves trail running because it provides him with an opportunity to achieve an almost indescribable level of physical and spiritual satisfaction. To him, trail running is a wonderful way to make new friends and to share remarkable experiences with those spirited souls who simply love to get on a trail and run. Brady recently volunteered to take the lead in organizing and continuing the fantastic tradition of the Athens – Big Fork Trail Marathon. He looks forward to meeting you all on the trails!

Starting with a divorce and subsequent flight to Puerto Rico in 2004, I began and possibly ended a quest for road running PR’s. Along the way I ran a couple of Boston Marathons which are cool because when you run that big hill there’s drunk college guys along the roadside calling you a sissy, and if you have a Tulsa shirt on, they’ll say things like ‘hey Tulsa, you’re a quitter, you can’t make it.”. This is in contrast to the college girls who let you stop and kiss them earlier in the run. That is the yin and yang of running to me, like life, sometimes sweet, sometimes not.
Since then I’ve nurtured injuries and licked wounds, and begun a path to further enlightenment through trail running and various circuitous bike journeys.
I began the Flower Power Bike Ride in 1991 in Muskogee and am still the ‘coordinating dude’. I was raised working on a farm/ranch outfit in sw Oklahoma and have been headed back towards the cow paths ever since I left there but didn’t know it until I found TATUR and discovered other cow path runners.
My biggest goal in trail running so far has been not to fall on rocks, but I do it anyway. Is there instruction for this?

I began running in August of 2005 – I was overweight and earlier that year decided that using the excuse that I was carrying around baby fat could no longer be an excuse since my daughter was over 2 years old. I started running one day because I didn’t have time to get to the gym and needed some sort of exercise. I loved it! I have 100% support from my family. My husband of almost 19 years (Jeff) doesn’t run, but Lauren (she’ll be 6 in December 2008) has gone w/ me a few times. I have always run alone – never with any group, until meeting up w/ the TATURs this year.
June 2008 was my first time trail running when I did the Barkley Book Fair. If that doesn’t get you hooked, nothing will. I had a great time (other than the poison ivy) and have been back to Turkey Mountain several times since. (I’ve grown up hiking on trails, but, never considered actually running on them – unless I was running from something!).

Married for 12 years with two children: 3 and 6 yrs old. They totally rock. Living in Joplin, MO for last 4 years before moving from Toledo, OH but since my wife is from Texas and we’ve lived there 8 years prior, I’m only allowed to call Texas home. Actually got hooked on the woods and running growing up in the White Mountains of Maine and New Hampshire before leaving for college. Currently direct marketing and product development for a small but wonderful consumer product company in Afton, OK. A dedicated runner for many years…but never much for speed and racing.

I can't believe the Route 66 is over with. It seems like only yesterday Lisa and I were wondering into RunnersWorld not knowing anything about running accept that we wanted to start doing it regularly. At that point in our lives we were running sporadically and when we did decide to run it was only about 2-5 miles a week, if that. We've made lots of friends and continue to meet amazing people through RunnersWorld. Thank you so much for opening your doors to us. We are truly blessed to have met such a knowledgeable and caring group of runners. You guys always made us feel welcome and important. And now hopefully we can consider ourselves runners along with you guys. Thanks for everything.
I personally (I don't know about Lisa) have wanted to join TATUR since the Turkey & TATURs race. I loved that race! I really really like the outdoors. Rock climbing is probably my favorite thing to do and trail running seems to compliment it nicely. I've climbed in OK, CO, and AR. I love when my knuckles get all scraped up and are bleeding or getting a great cut from a fall or a run-in with a tree. Scars rock in my book. They are way better than photographs. I just love extreme, adventure type activities where personal injury is highly probable. I had trail run some before Turkey & TATURs in Colorado but that was like 6 years ago. Turkey Mountain brought back a lot of memories for me and provided me with challenging running that I now crave. I knew I had to sign up soon but I wanted to get the Rt. 66 goal accomplished first. I like road racing but there's just not enough risk to get my adrenaline going like trail running and there's usually no mud. I like getting dirty too. Thats a little bit about what got me interested in TATUR. Plus the name is hella' sweet!
Lisa and I have been married since August 31st, 2008. We have been together for almost 5 years. We live in Wagoner(yuck). We have 2 dogs (that are like our kids) and 3 cats. We don't usually run with the group on Teusdays because our dogs have obedience class. They have both been going to school over a year and really like it. They love their classmates and their teacher so its hard to skip it because they enjoy it so much.
We would both love to run the NYC marathon someday. Hopefully we will both get in the lottery the same year. NYC is our favorite place to go. We would also really like to run a marathon in another country. ( I still can't believe that I can run a marathon, its pretty crazy).

Wes began running in 1999 with no idea of the overall options for the sport. Since the Tulsa Run was the focus at the time, he signed up and from that point on, he was hooked. After running with a friend a few months later, he learned of another 5K and the rest is history. So many races, so little time. Wes joined a local running group and became a regular participant at the TU Speed Training on Tuesdays. One of his significant accomplishments was in 2006 where he tied for the Run Tulsa Race Series Male Champion. Through the last few years, he has ventured into the triathlon world and enjoys the cross training with swimming and biking. Joining TATURS aligns with his goals for 2009-2010. He is working on a new PR for the OKC Marathon in April and hopes to compete in an Iron Man in 2010. Wes is married to Ashle which he met at the TU Speed Training in 2004 and is a father of five busy kids.

Brian, TATUR founder and Race Director for the Turkey and Taturs Trail Run has been running for four years and enjoys competing. Some of Brian's accomplishments include running 65 of the 100 miles at the Rocky Raccoon and running back to back marathons in two consecutive days. On Saturday April 5, 2008 he ran the Eisenhower Marathon in 3:37:20 for a PR. Then the next day, Sunday April 6th ran the extremely hilly Hogeye Marathon in 4:49:21. Brian has two great children, a daughter named Morgan who is 19, and a 16 year old son named Austen. He is looking forward to getting to know all the TATURs better. If you have any vitals that you would like him to include in your bio such as PR's, hobbies, kids etc., please email him.
Also, he is like a run-away freight train on those Arkansas trail downhills so lead, follow or GET OUT OF THE WAY!!! (Next time you'll watch out who you give web site login to, eh Brian!?!? Heh, heh, heh...)
