This unique race will be a timed run taking place on mostly flat, rock and root free, single track trails on the western side of Turkey mountain. The run will start March 8, 2008 at 9:00 am, and run until 3:00 pm. The course will head northwest from the old upper parking lot following some of the trails used in the Turkey and Taturs race, then north onto the Snake Trail. These are some of the smoothest and easiest trails on the "mountain". We also have taken great pains to remove all of the larger snakes from the course. Except for the snake below may still be lurking about.

Smooth trails

(Actually, the snake trail gets its name because it winds around like a snake, not because of an infestation of slithery reptiles!) You will run exactlyy 2 miles out, and then return and run the trail in reverse to the start/finish area.

There will be 2 aid stations, one at the start finish area near the upper parking lot, and one at the turnaround. You do not have to run for the entire six hours. You can run one out and back, run until you complete a half marathon, a marathon or a 50K if you're real fast. All starters who complete one out-and-back segment will receive a long sleeve T-shirt with our TATUR mascot being hotly pursued by a vicious viper! (see the picture in the top left of this page).

This above picture shows the relative smoothness of the trail. You do not need trail shoes, in fact we would recommend that you wear Anaconda...meet electric fence!road shoes. You can choose to run a 1/4 mile out and back during the last hour for those not able to complete a full 4 mile out-and-back circuit. The winner is the one who runs for 6 hours and covers the most miles. You can choose to run one circuit, then sleep for an hour and do another etc.

The entry fee is $20, which includes the shirt, and 2 awesome buffets of trail food and drinks. We are going to limit this race to the first 50 people who sign up. So ya better hurry if you want one of these awesome inaugural collectible T-shirts. We are only charging $20, so there are no awards, no fanfare, no belt buckles and no whining. If ya want all that, don't do this race. Smiles!!!

You can register for the race at RunnersWorld Tulsa on 44th & Peoria.

Course Description:

Entrants will start off just west of the upper (old) parking lot, 0.6 miles west of the corner of 71st & Elwood, and head northwest for about a half mile where theywill make a hairpin turn (mile 0.4) southeast. After the runners hit the 0.5 mile marker they will come to a small creek and a very gentle rise. 0.6 miles in to the circuit the entrants come to a "T" in the trail and make a sharp left onto a Jeep road. From there they will start a figure "9". Runners will head north crossing a small clearing where the power lines run east to west (Mile 0.75), pass their first aid station which will be on the left and 0.8 miles into the course. After fueling up, they will continue northwest till they get to the top-left of the "9". Runners will then turn south until they see what the locals call "Rock City" off to their right (mile 1.5). Rock City is boulder field that has some beautiful moss formations at this time of year. After Rock City the Snake runners will come to an old abandoned washing machine at Mile 1.8. From there runners will will head eastward until they see an abandoned oil pump to their left at mile 1.95. Six Hour Runners should be able to hear the sounds of the Two Mile Aid Station now and cruise on in to get their lap counted by a volunteer. This is also the turnaround spot. Runners will backtrack and follow the same course back to the aid station (which will be on the right this time at mile 3.2) From there the runners will have 0.8 miles back to the Start/Finish line.

Here is the breakdown of Aid Stations:

Start/Finish A/S Mile 0.0
Aid Station (Left) Mile 0.8
Turnaround A/S Mile 2.0
Aid Station (Right) 3.2
Start/Finish A/S Mile 4.0
